The New Zealand Rhodes Scholar* for 1929 are P. C. Minns (Auckland) and J. C. Dakin (Otago). Dakin, 8.A., of London University, who has been for many years science master at the Southland Boys' High School, Invercargill. Born at Inyereargill in 1908, he -became dux of the South School in that town in 1921 and", then attended the South Boys' High School for four years, gaining a .junior national scholarship in th& first year and a senior national scholarship and his matriculation in 1924. He was dux of the school in 1923, and the next year he was awarded a junior i university scholarship,' gaining tho highest total marks in the Dominion From 1927 up to the present time ho has been attending Otago University, specialising in languages, and sitting for his B.A; degree this year. His favourite sports are tennis and fives, and his .general interests include literary work in connection with tho college magazines and association with the Arts Students' Association, of Which he is president, the Students? Association, and the National Union, of Students.
