The Otago and Southland EmpireCancer Fund has been opened to public subscription. There has been a generous and immediate response, with tho result that £0500,'0r one-quarter of tho amount aimed at—namely, £25,000 — is already in hand.
Under a misapprchonsion, a meeting of the Central Coniniitteo of tho Cancer Research Campaign was announced as a public meeting. Tho committee meeting, held yestorday afternoon, was convened for tho special purpose- of considering suggested amendments to the rules proposed by tho Auckland committee. This committee was represented by the Mayor of Auckland (Mr. G. Baildon) and Mrs. Parke. Tho effect of tho discussion will bo reported to the Auckland committee, and it is hoped, as the result, that tho committee will come into Jine with those of Wellington, Otago, and Canterbury.
