MAORI PLACE-NAMES

(To the Editor.)

Sir,. —I read with much pleasure "Uncle SanaisV. letter to "The Post" of even, date, on the subject of "Waiwetu versus "Waiwhetu. His suggestion that the radio station 2YA should arrange for a series of lecturettea on the correct pronunciation of Maori place names, etc., is a splendid one, and would be welcomed by the majority of listeners-in. Some time back the local station did put over the air five or six fortnightly lecturettes on the meaning of Maori place names and I know for a fact that they were enjoyed by many listeners. The lecturettes were, however, suddenly Btopped without any apparent reason, much to the disappointment of many. I would like to suggest to the radio authorities that they invito a vote on the question from their clients, and if warranted reintroduce the lecturettes andhave them delivered weekly instead of fortnightly. —I am, etc., .

ONE OF MANY.
