TREASURE ISLAND
An extraordinary tale comes from Bordeaux. Three men of the Basque country are reported to have sailed for the Tuamotu Islands, in Polynesia ™ an amazing expedition, eeking a hidden treasure. It is said that 70 years ago a gang of Peruvian soldiers stole from the Treasury of the-Gov-ernment of Peru 15 million dollars in gold ingots (writes the Paris corre s pondent of the "Daily Chronicle") Landing with their booty on the islet of Pinak,, one of the Tuamotus, south of the Marquesas, in the Central Pacific, they provisionally buried the E old ingots ma secret spot in the sands of the island. But before they had had time to make further plans an epidemic sprang up among them, and they all died, leaving ther stolen treasure in its hiding place. It is said that the three Basques, who are now on their way to the island of Pinaki, have been investigating the affair for several years, and have discovered documents of the "Treasure Island," "Gold Beetle," and "Monte Cristo" type, which they expect to lead them to wealth untold.
