BUILT OF NEWSPAPERS
'A 'house made of v- old" newspapers stocked with furniture of the same material, is the result of eight years' patient work by Elis P. Stenman, of -Pigeon Cove, Massachusetts (U SA 1 Impressed by the wastefulness of larire numbers of newspapers blowing about thfr- streets (says-tho-"Christian Science Monitor"),, he began a series of experiments, which finally led him to the conclusion that tho paper house was a possibility. ' Some 65,000 old dailies were used, he- stated, besides several thousand photogravure secUons, which form a deep coloured border around the top of ..the rooms. The walls are made of 215 thicknesses of newspapers pasted and folded, and sub-jected-to a pressure- of about two tons the surface being strengthened with thr.ee coats of varnish." Tho roof shingles also are made of compressed papers. The house is entirely of paper except the floors, the rafters, the window and door sills. The furniture, made of newspapers largely in cylindrical form, ia singularly perfect in construction, having somewhat the anpearance of bamboo. l
