UP TO THE LIMIT.
As a footnote to the address to shareholders of the Bank of New South Wales by the chairman, Mr. Thomas Buckland the 'Sydney Morning Herald" publishes the aggregates for all banks, 21 in number, including, the two foreign banks operating m Australia. These statistics emphasise what the statistics of the leading banks made plaiu, that accommodation by the banks has been granted up to the'limit. With deposits amounting to £321,907 000 advances and bills discounted (other assets) amount to £298,222,000, and Government and local government securities to £37,764,000, making total loans £335,986----000, or £13,019,000 in excess of deposits. It is evident that considerable funds have been transferred from abroad for use in Australia.
