GRAND OPERA HOUSE.

The screen version of Anne Nicholls's "Abie's Irish Rose," now at the Grand Opera House, brings out all the humour, all tho pathos, and all the- romance of the great stage Play Charles Holers, as Abie Levy, makes a very convincing young lover, and Nancy Carroll is delightful as Rosemary "Murphy, his Irish Rose." The other characters are also in excellent hands, Jean Hersholt as Abie's father (Solomon Levy), ,1. Farrell Mac Donald as Patrick Murphy (Rosie's father), and Mick Cogley as Father Whalen being particularly Cood. One hears to the life the magnificent voice or Jean Hersholt, the screen's foremost character actor, and is charmed by Nancy Carroll as she ■ sings "Rosemary" and "Little Irish Rose." while Charles Rogers accompanies her on the piano. The incidental music is beautifully brought out. Tho supporting nhns include an in'ercstinil Pathe bound and News Reel, a humorous lUsical cartoon, "Oh. You Great Big Beautiful Doll," sung by Feliz the Cat with a mouse obbligato; while, on the stagt, Jack Lumsdaiue —"Australia's Iladio Rascal," tho original "Whispering Baritone"—is heard in the latest song hits, .to his own pianoforte accompaniments, and also tells somo very funny yarns His analysis of "Yes. Wo Have No Bananas" showing how it is pieced up from "The Halleluiah Chorus," "Oh, My Bonnie," and other ■well known tunes and sons, is delightful.
