j CHBISTCHURCH, This Day. The report of the engineer who has been investigating the proposals of the Christchurch Navigation and Trading Syndicate for establishing a port for small vessels in the Heathcote Estuary is not yet completed. It is hoped that it will be available towards the end of next week. Until the report is received and considered, no action will be taken by the syndicate regarding tho development of the scheme It is understood that investigations mao;e by the engineer have revealed that there is no quicksand to be provided against, and that the depth of water at low tido in the proposed channel is twelve feet. Below the water there is a depth of from IS feet to 25 teet ot mud resting on a rock bottom. The depth of water at the Sumncr bar at low tide is understood to be about twelve feet.
