[ENCOURAGING REPORTS
-The AVellington Free Kindergarten Council met on Monday, the president (Mrs. W. B. Davidson) presiding. Mrs. Alexander Hamilton was welcomed as a new member of the council. It was reported that during the month an afternoon party and sale;., of work had been held at tho: residence of' Mrs. Nicolson, Eawhiti terrace. The party, which had been organised by Mrs. Gibbs, Mrs. Luckio, and Mrs. Adams, proved most successful, and had resulted in between £94 and £95 being handed to tho council for the general funds of the association^ A hearty vote of thanks was passed to those responsible for this splendid effort, and to Mrs. Nicolson for so kindly lending her house. Appointments were made as follows for 1930: Taranaki Street Kindergarten, director Miss Scott, with Miss Gilberd and Miss Barker as assistants; Wellington South Kindergarten, Miss .Ramsay, and an assistant (yet to be appointed); Berhampore, director Miss : Lake;" .Newtown^• Miss Adams, with Miss Petrie as assistant; Brooklyn, Miss P; Gray; Fetohe,- Miss Scaife, with Miss Liardet as. assistant; Ngaio, Miss Seed, 'with Miss Logan as assistant. Appreciation was expressed of the work done by-the teaching staff, and their unselfish efforts.
Perhaps one of the happiest features of the cauncil meeting were the reports received from the local branches. Every ; report recorded enthusiasm and-activ-ity. Ngaio and P.etono continue to be self-supporting, and with .tho splendid efforts being made by the Mothers' Clubs tho council's action in the establishment of Free Kindergartens in these districts was said to be more than .justified. Berhampore and Wellington South were stated to have been very active throughout the year, which promised to be one of the most successful either committee has yet seen. Brooklyn had made smaller efforts, but not less successful, and the consistent ef- > fords of that committee were regarded as very encouraging. The Newtown Mothers' Club had paid for an assistant director for part of this year, and will meet half of the expense for the coining year, while Tarana'ki Street Mothers are still continuing the splendid efforts which have been characteristic of that club for so many years. During the nest few weeks Kindergarten Christmas parties:'will be the order of the day. The little kindergarteners have been busy for :months making delightful little gifts for father and mother." So happy are these tiny ones in their endeavour to prepare this Christmas surprise for their parents that they almost lose sight of the fact that there will be a gift on the tree for tlierii, too. The spirit of love and service is a very real thing in Kindergarten,' and especially so in Christmas activities.
