FOR MOTORISTS

BETTER SERVICE WANTED

A PROGRAMME SUGGESTED

Proposals for a vigorous campaign to get a greai accession of new members" to enable the Wellington Automobile Club to increase its service organisation, were contained in a special report submitted by Mr. I. V. Wilson to the Wellington Automobile Club executive at its monthly meeting last night. I It must be reluctantly admitted, stated Mr. Wilson in his report, that the Wellington Automobile Club has not enrolled as many members aa the registrations in its territory indicate as possible, and he suggested means which the committee might later consider, and--ivhich could be earned out with great advantage. His proposals were:—(l) To increase the clubs service officers to three, the cost ot which to the club would be approximately £780 per annum in salaries and £400 m other expenses, or a total of £1220. These service officers to operate— one Wellington to Rimutaka, one Wellington to Paekakariki, one north of Paekakariki. (2) To conduct a vigorous campaign for new members by means of these three service officers. (3) To appoint active agents at Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, Otaki, Levin, and Shannon. (4) To secure up-to-date premises on the lines of tho Auckland Automobile Association to provide proper facilities for members and better provision for answering inquiries and making known the advantages of the club's work. (5) To provide free service at stated times and places for adjusting lights on vehicles, of members. (6) To provide means for assisting in the recovery of stolen vehicles. (7) To provide an engineer to give free technical advice to members regarding mechanical troubles in their vehicles; and advice to members j regarding purchase of used vehicles. j

As indicating the great scope for a campaign to enrol new members, Mr. Wilson pointed out that "there were approximately 11,000 registrations in the present Wellington Club's territory; and a membership of this club of approximately 3200, of whom a fair number were now in the Manawatu territory."

The matter was held over for future consideration.
