THE REAL ISSUE

REFORM SPLITS THE VOTES

In the opinion of Mr. James Kerr, the United candidate for Hutt, the real issue in the by-election contest i' between Labour and United, and he told his audience at Day's Bay last night, that a vote for Reform was a vote for Labour.

Mr. Kerr said he believed the fight was between Labour and United, and that the Reform candidate would split the votes. The electorate had no desire to be led by a Socialistic candidate, but the electors should remember that a vote for Reform was a vote for Labour. He anticipated that in Petone the Labour and United candidates would have a majority of 2500 votes, and even if the Reform candidate polled well elsewhere, he would have no chance of winning.
