FAIR WEATHER
CONDITIONS IMPROVING
Rising barometers are now in evidence, as also are moderate to fresh south-west winds and cooler conditions. The recent depression is now located east of the Chatham Islands and an anti-cyclone is gradually advancing on to the the principal centre being northwards. Showery conditions have continued in most districts, and locally a quarter of an inch of rain fell last night. Conditions, howevor, this morning showed a marked improvement _in most districts, although at 9 a.m. it was still showery on the East Coast south of Castlepoint and was raining at Okura in southern Westland.
Moderate to strong south-westerly winds will veer shortly in and south of Cook Strait to north-westerlies, the same chango taking place later in northern districts. With the change of wind temperatures .will rise. On the East Coast scattered showers are still likely, but there as elsewhere the weather should improve and be mainly fair. A renewal of unsettled weather in western districts south of Taranaki is likely before long.
