GRAND OPERA HOUSE.
The screen version of Anne Nicholls's "Abie's Irish Bose," now at the Grand Opera House, brings out all the humour, all the pathos, and all the romance of the great sta^e play. Charles Rogers, as Abie Levy, make.* a very convincing young lover, and Nancy Carroll is delightful as Rosemary Murphy, his
"Irish Rose." The other characters are also in excellent hands, Jean Hersholt as Abie's father (Solomon Levy), J. Farrell Mac Donald as Patrick Murphy (Roste's father), and Mick Cogley a3 Father Whalcn being particularly good. One hears to the life the magnificent voice of Jean Hersholt, the screen's foremost character actor, and is charmed by Nancy Carroll as she sings "Rosemary" and "Little Irish Rose," while .Charles Rogers accompanies her on the piano. The incidental music is beautifully brought out. The supporting films Include an interested Pathe Sound and News Keel, a humorous musical cartoon, "Oh, You Great Big Beautiful Doll," sung by Felix the Cat with a mouso obbligato; while, on the stage. Jack Lumsdaine —"Australia's Radio Rascal," the original "Whispering Baritone"—ia heard In the latest song hits, to his own pianoforte accompaniments, and also tells some very funny yarns. His analysis of "Yes, We Have No Bananas," showing how It is pieced up from "The Hallelujah Chorus," "Oh, My Bonnie," and other well known tunes and sons. Is delightful.
