■ Jaya i shelled peanuts are fast replacing almonds for cakes, and the peanuts m tiie shell, usualy imported from China,and prices are popular with the public with considerable indent business passing. Chinese peanuts in shell are being quoted at very low prices, but very1 little interest is reported as taken in "them. Chinese walnuts are offering at;cheap prices, and are likely to be in keen demand in view of the reported damage to xMew Zealand crops by frost in the Can-1 terbury district. Owing to the depression in the United States market Indian and Javan coffee quotations have been reduced and buying of Indian has been done at £10 per ton below rates ruling this ni .i,?™1 Singapore cables show a tall of %d per pound in peppers. Tapiocas and sagos are easier with a "fall of 5s per ton on the week for lines to arrive here in January. Canned pineapples from Singapore'are considered very cheap, but buying has finished for shipment by. the direct steamer leaving Singapore next month. New Zealand imports of Singapore pineapples in lib soz and 21b packs are approximately 3,000,000 tins per annum. in addition there are imports of Hawaiian and other pines. Considerable business is reported in Rangoon unpolished table nee and heavy shipments are indented for the March-April direct Calcutta steamer. New Persian dates transhipped at oydney and Melbourne are now due ex NNohata.
