NO CITY BOOTH
A question lias arisen as to whether a polling place should not be made available in the city for electors of Hutt who. through exigencies of duty, will not be able to record their votes at a polling place within the electorate on polling day. Inquiries made by a "Post" reporter show that there is no provision in the Electoral Act for the setting apart of a _ polling place outside an electoral district for the convenience of qualified electors of that district. It was stated, however, that electors who were absent from an electoral district |on polling day, and who could not return before the poll closed, could exercise the franchise by voting before the postmaster of the district in which they might be located at the time. For municipal elections a polling place is provided in the city for the convenience of residents of Hutt. Municipal elections, however, are conducted under a different statute from the Electoral Act, whicli relates solely to Parliamentary elections.
