CONGRATULATIONS
MESSAGE TO MOTHER
NEW YORK, 30th November. Congratulations and praise for the aviation feat are being heaped upon Commander Byrd and his associates.
Following the South Pole flight Commander Byrd radioed his mother, Mrs. Richard Byrd, senior, at Winchester, Virginia: "Back after a fine flight. It was full of thrills."
Mrs Byrd stated: "Dick sent a Thanksgiving message immediately bofore his departure, and the entire family waited worried, but confident, until news came of his safe return."
A Boston message says that when requested to comment on her husband's flight, Mrs. Byrd refused to say more than that she had been.confident of his success.
