p . . SOUTH POLE, 29th November. bJ my calculations we have reached the vicinity of the South Pole. Flying lngh for a survey. Aeroplane in good shape. Crew all well. Am now turning north again. Can see almost limitless Polar plateau. We departed from South Pole at 1.25 o clock.

n A r,i BAY °F WHALES, 29th November. Byrd successfully visited the South Pole. He made a complete tour and survey of the surroundings, turned north again, landed at Queen Maud Mountains, picked up extra petrol, and Hew^ homeward to land at Little America. "All well—feeling fine were the unform signals from the great Ford plane, named Moyd Bennett in honour of Byrd's old friend, who accompanied him to the North Pole.

Three hours after the message, dated from the South Pole tfyrd sent a radio through to Little America: "Flying well. Motor line. We are over mountains now on return trip, and starting down to land" The next bulletin was: "Departure from mountains 6 o clock for Little America. Flying well. Motors fine" An hour later came: "About a hundred miles north of the mountains. Another hour later: "About, twenty miles south of the crevasse area. Flying well. Motors fine." The final bulletin was:_ We are only ten miles out. Almost ready for making a landing home again." °
