FIRST TRIP OVER MILFORD
Every indication points to a highly successful season on the Milford Track this years, says the "Southland News." Beports that the track itself is in excellent condition have been received frequently during the past few weeks, and these were verified this week when a party of local enthusiasts made the trip to the Sound. Mr. B. W. Coupland, District Tourist Officer, stated that the track was now in better order than it had ever been before. Mr. h. C. Cheriton, track manager, and his staff had dono their work thoroughly and visitors to Southland and the Sounds had been enthusiastic in. their praises. One member of the party was Mr. E. V. Paris, of Sydney, who considered hia first visit South the most enjoyable trip o E his life. His comments were endorse! by a retired Indian Army officer, Brigadier-General Palmer, a keen angler. Both were delighted with the beauties of the track and the Sounds, and with the sport available at the Lakes. The accommodation and meals particularly at the new Milford Hostel were termed excellent. When the party crossed to the Sound, M'Kinnon Pass was coated with snow. There was plenty of water about and the various falls were seeu to advantage. On tho return trip, however, this snow had entirely disappeared and it is not anticipated that there will be any more "wetness" until after the conclusion of the season.
