NORTHLAND SHOW

The Northland Horticultural Society held its summer show on Saturday. It proved to be one of the most successful ever held by the society. There was a very good attendance, and great admiration was shown for the champion bloom, a beautiful rose exhibited by Mr. G. S. Nieoll. Mr. Chapman judged the cut flowers, roses, and decorative vases; Mrs. L. Boyes the domestic classes, which were a specially attractivo section, with exhibits of exceptional quality and number; and Mrs. E. M. Franklin judged the needlework classes.

A remarkable feature of this show was the children's section, for which there were over 400 exhibits from the children, of Northland State School. They attracted much attention, and many of the exhibits were real works of art. The judge, Mr. D. M. Poison, late headmaster of the school, stated the work was of a very high order and deserved commendation.

Mr. B. Sutherland, of Karori, sent from his gardens a magnificent display of rare exotic pot plants and palms, etc., which were beautifully arranged by Mr. George Fearn (gardener). The Hon. R. A. Wright was present at the official opening, and in the evening he gave a short address, emphasising the excellence of the exhibits, especially the children's section.

An exhibition of dancing was given during the evening by the pupils of Miss Kathleen O 'Brien. Mr. and Mrs. Corkhill conducted a cake stall. Mr. J. O'Connor gave a large number of pot plants which realised a good sum of money. Eefreshments were in charge of a group of ladies.
