AUCKLAND SPEEDWAY
BIG CEOWD AT OPENING
{By Telegraph.—Press Association.}
AUCKLAND, Ist December
Auckland's new dirt track speedway at Western Springs was opened last night by the Mayor (Mr. G. Baildon), and then a programing; of events was held. Heavy rain fell during the racing, but that did not dampen the enthusiasm o£ a crowd of 15,000. Interest in the racing was heighttened by the presence of Australian and Wellington riders. In a special match event, Wellington versus Auckland, the Wellington representatives (Harvey and M'Ghee) finished first and second.; In another match race between the two Australians, Mann and Perkins, the former was successful. The Western Springs Handicap was won by L. Coulthard, of Auckland, Mann being second.
