SECOND MEETING

AT ATHLETIC PARK

With a great improvement in the general organisation of the races, the second meeting of the Wellington Whippet Racing Club, held at Athletic Park on Saturday afternoon, proved quite successful. Although the attendance was somewhat disappointing, excellent finishes were witnessed throughout the afternoon, and some good times were registered. The principal event of the day, the Summer Cup, ~as won by Mr. V. Neale's Southern Cross. In the final Southern Cross came a deadheat with Mr. T. Owen's Marie Jean, with Mr. L. Oliver's Verawyne taking third place. Southern Cross and Marie Jean were set to cover the distance again. The two dogs raced neck and neck down the 130 yards course, but Southern Cross forged ahead at the end and secured the victory by a narrow margin. The New-town Hurdles race was won by Mr. J. C. Watt's Old Tom, the Park Hurdles race by Mr A. J. Dillon's Rambler, and the puppy race by Mr. A. Wilson's Miss Australia At the conclusion of the meeting the cub s patron, Mr.. J.
