UNEXPECTED RUSH
FEILDING RACE-GOERS
The Railway officials were caught unawares at Thorndon this morning by a small army of intending racegoers for the Feilding Jubilee Meeting to-day. Long before the daylight Limited was duo to depart a queue extended from the ticket boxes to the street. The supply of excursion tickets was exhausted and the clerks had to set to and write out tickets. This meant a further delay and at the departure time of the train there were still a number of intending passengers without tickets. While these were being attended to it was found that the accommodation on the train was overtaxed and another coach was hurriedly requisitioned. The train left ten minutes behind schedule and race goers had grave doubts about seeing the first event at Feilding. However, after a smart Jun the train arrived at Palmerston North on time and Feilding was reached with 20 minutes to spare. Railway officials stated, in reference to this matter that the usual booking for tho Fcilding races.is between twenty and thirty passengers. This morning accommodation was available for eightyfour, but when it was found that over one hundred passengers were offering an extra carriage was attached. All passengers were booked before the train left Thorndon. The train arrived at Feilding on time. Adequate arrangements have been made to cope with the race traffic on Monday.
