WOMEN AND PIN MONEY
"Facto" writes: "I noticed in the 'Evening Post' that Mr. J. H. Thomas has at last discovered what he considers two of the root causes of unemployment: Pensioners who deprive others of work, and women who work for pin money. There is no doubt this practice (and it is a very common one in Wellington) does help to swell the ranks of the unemployed, and in the case of the women goes a long way towards breaking up the home life. _ If married women whose husbands are in good health and earning money require extra work to keep them fit and from feeling lonely, I am sure there are quite a large number of poor women with large families who could do with a little assistance from such women, providing they were willing to give their services from a real desire to' help point of view, and not for pin money."
