Handicaps for the WoodviHe Meeting are. due on Tuesday, and acceptances close on *Friday. ■ . The, Takapuna Meeting. .The fields engaged, at Takapuna tomorrow are quite large enough for that course; In addition a good deal of rain has fallen'; and it is-still -raining to-day. Accordingly calcnlatibns may be upset considerably. ; There^ are a. few visiting horses, but in the main the programme is filled by -Aucklanders. A useful field is engaged in the leading event, the .ALISON CUP. Gray up, should be in keen demand. Better ridden, she would have beaten stronger fields than this at. Ayondale,1 and Bllerslie. ';.
Taurua should see a short price in the Melrose Maiden Stakes. . He^ appears to outclass.this field. ' ''.:"'.}.:''.').
Glena Bay, .who is reported in excellent fettle, ■ may show up well in' the Tiri Highweight. Motere may have his chance in this class of event to make amends for recent failures.
Flying Prince appears to be in his right place in the Borough Handicap, with the elect of Mithra and Refresher the next best. --
Oil King and Light Draft have the best public form of the juveniles in the Cambria "Handicap. :<- -• ■-''...;■■'■
Vali.should, be. a. good: favourite, for the Takapuna Plate. The Trentham represehfative.r Dueltona, and Leitrim, may be'the "best of the others;' •■•■j- ".-■-
Ifv-Taurua is reserved for. the Ponui Handicap his prospects appear to be even better than those earlier in the day. Eed Lion may be the danger. - ' T. Webster Recovering!" The young horseman, T. Webster, who ■was injured at Riccarton- on: the first day of; the-recent meeting, is still, an inmate oC-Lewisham Hospital in .ChristcKurch. He has-^made^yery. satisfactory* progress toTvarSs r«cdvery, and is "expected to be able sh'citly.^to.:; leaveTfor .his home in the North: Island, v" ■ ■ ;'' On -the Job for a Star Turn. Last season the Dunedin Jockey Club made a-.great hit when Aussie, Limerick, and .Eapier were attracted for the James Hazlett Gold Cup, the mile weight-for-age race,: at the Ajiturnp Meeting in February. The club's:enterprising secretary, Mr. L. Gy'Hill,. is busy again in .an endeavour to,,^.ooin the next Duiiedin Cup Meeting. Once more the Hazlett Cup is the medium, and", on - this occasion an effort is being iriade to; secure the presence of Limerick, Nightmarch, and Chide. It is, of course, top early to say definitely that any one of-the cracks will be at Wingatui next February, even if their owners are ever so favourable. If circumstances shape themselves, however, so that these three arei ;on ; the;r scene,:: the : next 'contest for the £ James, Hazlett Gold Cup will be a ■wonderful draw.land: the;.Dunedin Jockey Club.Twill •be assured of a great Cup fisture;;-.;- : ,■ •: . .■■.-. ;..'.- , _..'..
