THE SAILORS' FRIEND SOCIETY.

Despite the downpour, an evening of rare enjoyment was passed by Miss J. Samson's guests at the Sailors' Friend Society on Tuesday, when items of a most pleasing nature were given. The helpers came in for many encores. The performers were Mrs. Watson, the Misses I. Stanton, Mason, Samson, Peoples, Newdick, and Messrs. Watson, Mellor, Brand, and A. Moore and Taylor. The Misses Mason and J. Samson were at the piano. Mr. J. Moore (missioner) took for his subject, "How they Advertise." Pledges followed. The members of the Victoria league extended hospitality to the guests of the evening. Good work was done in the competitions;, the prizes came from Ngaio and Khandalah, and went to the Port Hunter and Taranaki.
