VIOLIN RECITAL

Friends of Mr. Leslie C. Walker, L.A B and of his pupils were not withheld by the rough weather last night from attending the students' recital in the Concert Chamber, and were enthusiastic. over the .programme provided. No encores were allowed, but it is cer'.aiii they would have been demanded had no such rule been laid down Except for a violin quartet (Messrs. Lionel Pyne, L. Harrington, John iJianiond, and James Mac-Donald) the first items were by Mr. Walker's younger pupils. Of these Billie Harris was the most competent, his "Allegro" (Senaille) being played ivith a business-like facility outstanding m one so young. Mark Hyman (Minuet from "Samson," Handel) and Lois Smith (Rondo, Vanhall), also showed promise, as did Jack Robing who infused the right spirit into Bokin's "Introduction and Polonaise." Other performances which pleased the audience were given by Jean Gross, Lawrence Duncan' JJpsmond Walshe, Alan Shaw, and David ONiel. James M'Donald played a rather difficult piece ("Andante Tranquillo," de Benot), in good style. O£ the adults, Mr. Moreton llauaty showed decided ability in hid playing of an "Andante Religioso" by Forster, and Mr. J. R. Diamond's number, "Allegro Vivace, Op. 2 No 2" (Mozart) .wa ß very well received. Mr Lionel Pyne. played the Hebrew, air "Kol JNidrei and Mazur" quite capably and a satisfactory duet was that given by Miss L. Leckie and Mr. L. Harrington. Some twenty-four pupils together played "Gavotte in B Plat" (Handel) and . Minuet" (LulJy). The pupils taking part in these ensembles, other than those already mentioned, 'were Missfea I. M'Crea M. Xl'Sullivan, E. V. Paton, P. Radomski, J. Rogersori, Messrs. L. Duncan, R Hurren,- W. M'Arthur, J. Donovan, A. Shaw, W. Sakey.N. Steele, and D. Walshe. Mrs. Walker was a very, helpful accompaniste, and she and her husband should feel well satisfied with the evening's "entertainment.
