AMATEUR ATHLETICS
OPENING OF THE SEASON.
A wide variety of tastes are being catered for at the electric light sports meeting at the Basin Reserve on Saturday night, -when the 1929-30 season will be officially commenced. Wellington's leading athlete 3 have been in steady training, and are turning out in full force, so that followers o£ the sport should be able to get a line on -what may be expected from those who were prominent last season and also from the fresh talent in the big engagements of the new season. The lady competitors have entered in big numbers, and their evtnts may be expected to provide plenty o£ interest. Among the lady runners will be Miss T. Keneh, one of last year's most notable performers. A prominent part in. the evening's programme will be played by the cyclists, who will be seen in action over various distances. The riders will include the bestknown names in Wellington, and will undoubtedly supply some thrilling sport. The first event of the all-round cycle championship will be held, and in addition there will be a novelty event with Moms and Ericsson riding the antiquated | penny-farthing'? machines.
