OBITUAEY

VETERAN U.S. SENATOR

(Received 26th November, noon.) WASHINGTON, 25th Nov. Senator Francis Warren, aged 88, is dead. He was the last survivor of the Civil War in Congress.

Senator Francis Emroy Warren was born in Massachusetts and served in the Massachusetts Volunteers in the American Civil War, receiving the Congressional Medal of Honour "for gallantry on the battlefield at the seige of Port Hudson." He moved to Wyoming in 1868, and was thereafter associated with that region, being elected first Governor of the State in 1890. He had been a member of the U.S. Senate since 1894.
