SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS.

The depression on the Tasman Sea has developed cyclonic form,. and this morning was centred west of Farewell Spit. The prospects are, therefore, now more favourable for useful rains in eastern districts. Northerly winds have risen to gale force at places in the northern districts,, but elsewhere are still moderate to fresh and in the southern half of the South Island a change to southerlles has taken place. \Further rain has fallen in western districts with some heavy falls, and since last night there has been a general Increase in cloud with an extension of the rain area.
