Please understand that my action was not a, request to the Mayor of Auckland to cancel an existing arrangement for a civic reception, but a suggestion, if deemed advisable, to abandon a reported proposal for sucll an arrangement. Existing conditions fully 3ustified my action. Have no right insisting officially', upon Mayor granting a civic, reception, which function exceeds usual: courtesies; To beg for favours would be undignified^ My attitude is approved. .Please desist agitation, and do not spoil: our good cause.
