For 44 days the curious enter? temment went on, and the citizens of Berlin marvelled at; the .endurance of the man, who subsisted so lpng on nothing but cigarettes and water. Now a Court of law has • decided that he swindled them. After 28 days 6f cigarettes and water he began to take chocolate, which was smuggled into him. The Court fined him £50..f0r deception, but as he received £1000 for his performance, he is £950 to the good.
