TOUR BY TRAIN

With the vie wof enabling* representative business men the opportunity of studying at first hand the resources and potentialities of the southern districts of the North Island, the Wellington Chamber' of Commerce and the Wellington Manufacturers' . Association have, with the assistance of the Railway Department, planned the running of a erusing train from 12th to 21st April. The itinerary provides for visits to places of industrial and commercial interest, as well as the chief sight-seeing spots. ' - ...

The train is to leave Wellington at 9:30 p.m. on 12th April,' and will proceed by easy stages up the west coast of 'New Zealand. It will then visit Raetihi, from .which town the passengers will make excursions to viewMount Ruapehu. The train will then cross to the east coast, to allow the party to visit places of interest in Hawkes Bay. The'return journey will be )made through the Wairarapa, Wellington being reached at 6 p.ni. on 21st April.

The tour will occupy approximately nine days. The train is to consist of four sleeping cars, parlour cars, utility car, day ear, bath car, etc. Government officers are to travel with the party, and will dclr/jr lectures oil the farming resources and possibilities of the country traversed, and on points of interest fro mthe scenic, engineering, and historical" points of view. Stenographic assistance will be provided to enable members to deal with urgent correspondence, and. arrangements will be made with the Postal Department; for. prompt forwarding' of telegrams and letters. The establishment of intermittent telephonic communication with Wellington is being arranged for, as well, as a supply of daily newspapers. The party will bo limited to sixty-five male members of the Chamber of Commerce or Manufacturers' Association. ■ ,

A tour, similar to that proposed, was made last October in the Auckland Province, and was an unqualified success.
