J. P. Hannan,. champion sculler of New Zealand, and James Mason, of Whangarei,. challenger, arc assiduously training for Saturday's contest on the Whangarei Eivor, involving the title. Tho champion/ who will use a Towns boat, finds tho hot weather very trying, and has lost ten pquuds in weight, but

anticipates being fighting fit on Saturday. He will row at about 12 stone and Mason at 12 stone 101b. Mason has improved considerably, and the issue is expected to be keenly fought.
