MEDICAL PROFESSION HOSPITALS BAR WOMEN DISTRACTION TO MEN (United Press Association.—Copyright.) (Sydney "Sun" Cable.) (Received 20th March, 1 p.m.) LONDON, 20th March. The future education of women doctors is at present disturbing medical feminist circles in London, owing to five hospitals, namely, London, Charing Cross, Westminster, King's College, and St. George's banning further women students on account of the attitude of male students, who declare that woment interfere with athletics, are a distraction to their studies, and do not make succesful doctors; also that medicine is an unfit subject for mutual study. The decision has aroused considerable controversy, feminists asserting that it would be outrageous if athletic ambitions were suffered to override the medical education of women, which is essential in the natjonal interests. They urge women not to" subscribe to a hospital were women are not admitted. AN UTTER FAILURE. On the contrary a Harley Street specialist considers the decision very wise. Doctors generally agree that mixed schools are an utter. faijurel Where women are admitted, males adopting athletics, which create an invaluable esprit de corps, turn to social d|stractions, such as tea; parties, and become "poodle fakers." Women ought to have their own schools, where they could evolve their own traditions and school spirit. . Dr. Winifred Cullis, replying to the suggestion that women doctors are frequently unemployed, denies that they are unsuccessful. Thei: opportunities are increasing. Women are always glad to have doctors of. their own sex practising in the district. ; The next development of the hospitals' sex war will be when Dr. E. Graham Little, M.P. (Independent) will contest legality of.the ban at the London University Senate's meeting on*the 21st March, pointing out that a sex ban is illegal under the statutes. He will be supported by. the Westminster Hos-. pital's delegates'.
