LAWLOR RESCUED
MISSIONARY'S WORK
CONFIDENCE OF CHINESE BUGBY, 13th December. The Admiralty announces that the rescue of Captain Lawlor from Yangste Biver pirates has been effected by th 9 Eev. Forbes Tocher, and Captain Lawlor is now on the British gunboat Bee. The Bey. Forbes Tocher, who has thus been instrumental in saving Captain Lawlor's life, is a well known missionary of the Church of Scotland. He went to Ichang in 1909, and is in charge of St. Andrew's School there. He gslned the Military Cross as chaplain during the war. It is bis knowledge of the situation and the confidence reposed in him by the. Chinese which have rendered his efforts successful. MISSING LIEUTENANT. The Governor of Shansi, Yen Hsishen, has informed the British authorities at Pekin that, despite careful inquiries, no trace has been found in the province of Lieutenant Knowles, of the, British Legation Guards, who has been missing since October, when he proceeded westward on a fortnight's -walking tour. He was last heard of. in the middle of November when he stayed for a few days in a Trappist monastery. The gravest' fears are entertained as to his fate. ■
