Although the stock entriei were fewer than they were in the two J**". • ceding years; the third annual show of the Eoyal Agricultural Society, held *t Auckland laat week, was a greater s«o> cess from the financial point of view than either of its predecessors. Jhe secretary (Colonel .T. Pow) stated this morning that this year's show wag a greater success than most people p«riaps imagined. . In 1924 there were 2108 entries'in the various classes for stock, while in 1926 there were 2267, and this year 1767. The gate receipts jn 1924 were £1813, in 1925 £3217, and this year £2449. Tho decline in entries this year was due in the main to the heavy cost of transporting stock from the South Island to the North Island, with the result that South Island exhibitor! were not so prominent as previously. The entries of cattle and pigs were better than in either of the two-pre-vious years, but in the sheep and horses sections, especially the latter, there was a marked decline. The outstanding features o£ the show, said Colonel Pow,- were: (1) The excellent display of pigs; at the sale of pigs at the show there wag keen compotition, indicating that the pork industry of the Dominion would get w boost along in the near future; (2) the '■■ splendid exhibition of Jersey and IMesian cattle, and in a minor degree of Milking Shorthorns; (3) the phenomenal success of stock from the South Island; out of 22 South Island, entries in tho sheep classes ten. championshipi were secured, and the solitary cattle exhibit enrried off the championship for Friosinn bulls; the success of the Canterbury Agricultural College was also noteworthy, as out of eleven entries it secured eight championships; and (4) the splendid arrangements made by the Bailway Department for the transport of show stock. The secretary said that the special train run from Palnieraton North to Auckland, and from Auckland to Palmerston North, was a complete success in every way. It - consisted of 64 trucks of stock, and completed the Journey in less than twenty-four hours, which was pleasing both to the exhibitors [ and to the attendants. In addition, the • Department forwarded the Wairarap* '• and South Island stock by special train from Palmerston, North to Wellington early on Saturday morning, thus helping the society to achieve its objective of having all stock returned ,to the owners at the week-end. "Throughout all nvy dealings with the officials of tho Department," he said, "I have found ,them exceedingly courteous and willing to v help the Eoyal Agricultural Society in every way, and to expedite the : transport of show exhibits." He also expressed thanks to the Hamilton Agricultural and Pastoral Sooiety for allowing the Eoyal Show to be held on the dates usually allotted for its own fixture.
