ISLAND BAY SCHOOL
_- (To the Editor.)
Sir,—The. congested state of the Island Bay Schoot has been pointed out recently in your columns. I would like to reiterate the previous writer's remarks, and say that the Infant School is actually at the present time refusing admission on account, f.gtrthe already overcrowded conditions. It seems deplorable that the Education Board allows this situation without' making any effort to provide further spacei. The population of Island Bay ij increasing.at a very rapid rate, and even if the "board were to wake up and begin preparing further accommodation immediately it would be months before it could be available. Apart from the inconveu- . ience caused to parents by preventing them from Bending • their • children to ■chool there is the more important side to consider,-that is, the. question of hygiene. Apparently this is a non-existent factor in the board's opinion, but I can assure them, it-gives mothers of school children a,-great,.(J.eal of anxiety. Could not some provision be made that would relieve the' long walk of young children from Happy Va'lley'arid West Beach? Surely a branch infant schoolroom could bo erected, say, half-wr.y between Happy Valley and VVesc ' Beach, in order that the young children from the south-west side of the bay (fully t-Jvo 'miles', from the bay school) could b<2 provided for, and thus also reliovc somewhat.. t|fie-. crowded space at the main schdol.—l" am, etc., - FOR THE LHTMi ONES.
