Several weeks ago it was reported that a young man had been assaultefl and injured in Talavera terrace, when proceeding homeward one night. Last night another case of assault occurred in Mount street, the victim being a young woman. The night was brilliantly clear and moonlight, and about 10 o'clock pas-sers-by were startled to hear the. shriek of a woman from the vicinity of the turnstile at the entrance to the pathway which leads .up to Kelburn beside the Koman Catholic cemetery. A man and two ladies who heard the woman scream went to her assistance, and she stated that as she passed ! through the turnstile on her way home to Kelburn, a man emerged from the entrance to 'the University College tennis courts. She did not take any notic of him, but suddenly he seized her, put his hand Over her mouth, and attempted o drag her into the bushes by the side of the path. As she struggled the man's grip relaxed, and she promptly screamed, whereupon her assailant decamped into the cemetery, and was not seen again. The young lady was not injured, but naturally suffered a severe shock.
