BUILDING OF EMPIRE
NOT BY PARCHMENT SPEECHES OF POLITICIANS
MR,' CHURCHILL AT THE CANADA CLUB. LONDON, 19th October. "It is not by the parchment speeches of politicians that the British Empire has teen built up," said Mr. Churchill at a dinner given by the Canada Club in honour of Lord Byng. "The Em-
pire grows great and strong by the unseen', unceasing heart-beats of strong and powerful peoples, separated from one another by immense distances, but united for the purpose of mutual security and advantage; united also by the growing conception of corporate life and duty; united most of all by the romance of the history symbolised and enshrined in the Imperial Crown."
