DRAINING o_' tOUKAWA IsAKE.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.),. HASTINGS, This Day. The Minister of Agriculture, the, Hon. 0. J. Hawken, in reply to a deputation urging the draining of Poukawa Lake, near Hastings, thereby bringing some 3000 acres into profitable occupation, said: "We want all the production we can get in New Zealan.i today." The lake should be drained, and if put into dairying and fattening it would, in conjunction with the. hill country, produce a large income. If the scheme were taken in hand vigorously, something could be done. He would do his best to have the proposal carried out.
