TRENTHAM NOTES
(By "Vedette.")
There was a welcome improvement in the weather this morning, but the deluge of the past twenty-four hours had done its damage and the grass tracks were still very heavy. The trial grass and tan tracks were available this morning, and the tan provided very fair going from the mile to the threefurlong post. There was nothing sensational in the work accomplished, the horses in the main being restricted to strong three-quarter pace work. If the weather holds good, which appears anything but certain, there should be some interesting galloping to-morrow. E. George had his team out, namely, Te Monanui, Mint Leaf, Jazz Baby, Hipo, Boyal Mint, and Merry. Jest. Te Monanui and Mint Leaf were companions in a half-mile sprint on the tan in 54} see. C. Christie had Tholomon and Black Duke on the course. Christie has charge of Black Duke until D. P. Wilson arrives later on. Hokioi, Glument, and Gauntlet were schooled over the hurdles in the centre of the course. J. H, Prosser has arrived with Jazzy, Agitato, Stream, Gardant, and a two-year-old by Paper Money from Maltegarde. Nippy has arrived at Trentham, and will be joined later by the remainder of J. T. Jamieson's team in Le Choucas, Tea Bell, Ti Tree, and High Finance. F. Loomb's team, Phaola, Desert Glow, and Black Cruiser, have arrived. It is understood that Desert Glow will not be a runner in the Wellington Handicap, in which there promises to be a very small field. Desert Glow is also engaged in the Wainui Handicap. P. Johnson has arrived with the October Handicap candidate, Besinous, a v_ry promising hack.
