REDUCING INSURANCE RATES
LABOUR COMMITTEE'S EBCOICMENDATION.
(United Press Association.—Copyright,) SYDNEY, 7th September.
T!io Parliamentary Labour Caucus Sub-Committee, which, has been, inquiring into tlio working of thp Workers' Compensation. Insurance rates, has reported in favour of a reduction of tho rates forthwith by one-third, also a review at the end of December with a view to further reductions' in. the case of certain rural and mining industries. A still greater reduction is favoured, and a number of anomalies will also 130 removed. Tho committee recommends the establishment of a State monopoly of tho compensation business. It regards such action as necessary; if the rates are to be brought to a bedrock level. Probably legislation creating a monopoly will be introduced next session. It is also probable that the sickness risk,' as such, will be abolished, and this risk embodied in an allembracing flat rate.
