TWO CHALIAPIN CONCERTS.
Mr. Bert Royle, the New Zealand representative for Messrs. J. and N. Tait, has been advised that Chaliapin can only sing at two concerts in Wellington, instead of three, as originally announced. All .those who have already booked seats for the third concert may effect a transfer by calling at The Bristol. Chaliapin is the one great outstanding operatic basso of the day. Such is his mana in the world of grand opera that his services are in urgent demand every season in half a dozen countries, and it is only between seasons that he could contemplate a trip such as his present one to Australia and New Zealand. He now has to hurry back to America in order to fulfil engagements there. As a singer Feodor Chaliapin takes rank "among" the.' greatest. :bassos of all time, .and physically, as well as intellectually; he is a giant among men, and with such advantages he is extraordinarily impressive in the kingly roles he, as a rule, impersonates in grand opera. The ordinary plans will open at The Bristol on Friday morning. The two concerts will be given at the Grand Opera House on Thursday and Saturday of next week— and there can be no extension of the season.
