HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

ARRANGEMENTS FOR SPRING SHOW

A meeting of the General Committee of the Wellington Horticultural Society was held in No. 2 committee room at the Town Hall on Monday. Mr. H. A. Cox (chairman of the committee) presided, and there was a large attendance of members. A large amount of correspondence in connection with the forthcoming Spring Show was received. The private secretary of the Governor-General wrote stating that His Excellency Sir Charles Fergusson would open the show, and would be accompanied by Her Excellency Lady Alice Fergusson. Mrs. Underwood (convener of the tearooms committee) reported that everything was in order. It was decided to run a flower stall. The Wadestown Horticultural Society I applied for a judge and lecturer for its show on Thursday next, and Mr. L. Waugh was appointed. Regarding the suburban competition at the spring and summer shows, it was decided that the trophies must be won three times before becoming the property of the successful society. Owing to a mistake in the schedule this was not made quite clear. The status of an amateur grower, as drawn up and distributed by the secretary, was approved. Messrs. Richards, Manttan, James Bell, D. Wall, Gran, Boyea, Nieol, and Taylor were appointed Btewards for the show. Accounts amounting to £5 10s were passed for payment.
