NEARING AN END
SPECIAL DEMONSTRATION ■ ___ CONCERTS.
The Wellington Competition Society's festival aX the Town Hall is neariug au end. A good programme is presented to-day, *and the hearing of the final tests will take place to-morrow. There is no morning session to-morrow. The first event will commence in the afternoon at 2 o'clock, ami in the evening the society's first demonstration concert will be given. Another concert will be given on Friday evening. This will be followed by a matinee on Saturday, and a special demonstration concert on Saturday evening will conclude the festival. As in past years the demonstration entertainments, no doubt, will attract a good deal of interest. Generally performances at this year's festival have been of a very good standard, and with the winners of the various test 3 taking part, tho special, concerts should be well patronised. Owing to the competitors failing to obtain the necessary percentage of marks, no award is being made in tho gentlemen's elocution championship. The winners of tho men's vocal championship, the ladies' vocal championship, and tho piano championship have not been determined yet, and the posting of the awards- is being koenly awaited. The results of this morning's tests are as follow:— Piano Duet (opt^n to any competitor, amateur or professional, over 1G); "March Hongroise" (Kowalski). —Miss Bae Sigall and Miss Vera Boesley (Kilbirnie), 85 points, 1; Miss Isabel O 'Began (Island Bay) and Miss Nancy Reid (Wellington), 81 points, 2; Miss Mary Lennie (Wellington) and Miss Christina Conlon (Lower Hutt), 80 points, 3. • v Piano Solo (15 and under 18); Bristol Piano Co.'s Scholarship, (b) own selection.—Becalls: Mildren Rising (Petone), "Vulse"; Gladys Marshall (Wanganui), "Etude in E Major"; Maguerite Minson (Christchurch), "Polonaise.''
