THE DAY IN PARLIAMENT
The House of Eepresentatives yesterday spent a day upon finance, giving consideration to the Eural Advances Bill, aimed at affording financial assistance to the farming community, and also to the Bank of New Zealand Bill, which has the same object in view. Interest in the welfare of the man on the land was displayed by members on all sides of the House, and there was no strong objection to the legislation proposed in either Bill. Speaking on the Bank of New Zealand Bill, Labour members expressed the opinion that the bank was not acting in any philanthropic mood, and some refvrence was also made to the tax—free dividends of shareholders. Having disposed of these Bills, the House dealt similarly with the Pensions Bill and the Westport Harbour Bill. Before the House me at 11.30 p.m. the Motor Omnibus Traffic Bill, giving effect to the report of th« Special Committee of the House upon the subject of competition between buses and trams, was introduced by Governor-General's Message and read a first time.
