JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS
(Special to "The Evening Post.")
AUCKLAND, This Day. A defence of the junior high school system was made by Mr. I". Milner, rector of the Waitaki Boys' High School, in speaking of post-primary education at the Rotary Club yesterday. "Many may attack the system on the score of expenditure," he said, "but it is impregnable on the point of principle." Recently many attacks had been made against the so-called materialism that was creeping into education. The late Minister of Education had introduced in the experimental form a drastic change in the educational system of the country. By this primary education ceased at the age of eleven or twelve years, and not at thirteen, fourteen, or even fifteen. It was hinted that the system did not find favour with the present Minister, but he personally could vouch for its excellent results. He quoted the opinions of several of the leading educationists in Britain, as well as America, who were also warm supporters of the scheme.
