No Chance for Wellington.
"Wellington, merchants have no chance of competing with New Plymouth firms these days," remarked a member of the council of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce on Thursday evening. This, says an exchange, was all due to direct shipments. Wellington could not expect t» do business with Taranaki and pay coastal freights. And Wellington naturally felt sore that about 20,000 to 30,000 tons of goods that used to go via Wellington was now shipped direct to New Plymouth. Tho saving in freight, of cours.e, went to the consumers.
