VICE-BEGAL.

His Excellency the Governor-General visited the Salvation Army buildings in Cuba street at 11 a.m. to-day. In the afternoon Their Excellencies will hold a reception at Government House. On Thursday, 16th instant, the Gov-ernor-General will inspect the Ist Battalion, Hawkcs Bay Kegiment, in training at Trentham Camp. Their Excellencies the Governor-Gen-eral and Lady Alice Fergusson will visit Marsden School, Karori, at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, 28th September, when His Excellency will formally open the new buildings.

The Hon. C. J. Smith, M.L.C., arrived from the South by the Maori this morning. Brigadier Walter .Winton, of Dunedin, well known throughout New Zealand and Australia as the "Digger Padre" of Codford, is now in England, with Mrs. Winton and their two children. For four years he served with the New Zcalanders, and he was the first chaplain captain to be *ent horns with the Forces. He is now attached to International Headquarters, Queen "Victoria street, London, and his business will be to travel the various parts of the United Kingdom on the Salvation Army work for which, General Booth selected him. Brigardier Winton has been created an M.B.E.-
