A WASTED AFTERNOON.
Protests by the Leader of the Opposition in regard to the order of 'the proceedings of the House-have been of almost daily occurrence of late. The "stonewall" upon the Auckland Provincial Water Board Bill on Saturday afternoon, and the fact that the House was called upon to consider such a contentious measure when other local Bills appeared low on the Order Paper, and were thus threatened with exclnsion, brought Mr. Holland to hia feet with a further objection. "What is the use of keeping us here all the afternoon," he asked, "when we could bo doing other work and making up some of the leeway? Members are being kept here without any good purpose being served at all. Other local Bills are being kept back by this contentious matter, whereas they could have been dealt with earlier in the afternoon. We ought not to have been asked to waste this afternoon when it should have been recognised that the honourable gentlemen who are supporting it, as well as those opposed to it, could not get to a decision on it this afternoon."
